  • We know our Church must rise to the challenge set forth by the Second
    Vatican Council.
  • We also know that laity have a primary role in meeting the call of the
Council for the Church in the 21st century.
  • To answer this call, we the laity must become aware of our rights within
the Church and reflect on how to exercise those rights and so meet our
    responsibilities as Catholics.
  • This Lay Congress offers Catholics of the Diocese of Brownsville the
opportunity to gather for education, reflection, discussion, and prayer.
"This is what we are about.  We plant the seeds that one day will grow.  We water seeds already
planted, knowing that they hold future promise. ... We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of
liberation in realizing that.  This enables us to do something, and to do it very well.  It may be
incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord's grace to enter and
do the rest."   from
